(Take Your Time) Lumber Man

Music and lyrics by Steve Leonard

You’ve been busy chopping wood doing everything you should
But the work isn’t finished ’til it’s done

Where the trees once stood there’s a clearing in the wood
You’ve only just begun

Hacking from the dawn, stacking ’til it’s gone
Through the wind and the rain and the snow
And anything can hinder dragging the timber
From here to Idaho (From here to Idaho)

Got more wood than anybody should
Ever could or would chop down
No matter what you intend, the days never end
and there’s no one else around

Constant sound of the axe, no time to relax
you never had to work so hard
When it gets too much and it’s all piled up
drop it off at the lumber yard

Take your time lumber man You’re hauling a heavy load
Take your time lumber man There’s a lot more to be towed

Stack it in the bed, move it to the shead
that you built with a leftover pile
Build with the best, burn all the rest
it’s going to take a while

Watch your lane, the traffic’s insane
They’ll run you off the road
If you ever arrive, once you revive
you’ll be hauling another load (you’ll be hauling another load)

Take your time lumber man
You’re hauling a heavy load
Take your time lumber man
Now they’re choppin’ down the grove
Take your time lumber man
The jungle won’t cease to grow
Take your time lumber man
How much more can you tow?

When the sun come out, and you want a hideout
where will you find shade?
You though you were in the driver’s seat
you thought you had it made

Once they all fall the meaning of it all, will finally become quite clear
and now’s you chance, to take a stance, choose love instead of fear

Take your time lumber man
You’re hauling a precious load
Take your time lumber man
You’re flyin’ off the road
Take your time lumber man
The jungle might cease to grow
Take your time lumber man
There’s a lot more to be towed

Take your time lumber man!
Take your time lumber man!
Take your time lumber man!
Take your time lumber man!
